VICTORIA, Texas — The Victoria Office of Emergency Management, in collaboration with Victoria ISD, Victoria ISD Communications, Victoria County Sheriff's Office, Victoria Police Department, Victoria Fire Department, and City of Victoria Communications and Public Affairs, will host a training exercise on Wednesday, June 7. The exercise aims to evaluate the ability of these local agencies to respond to a public safety emergency at a VISD campus.

A press release from the City of Victoria said the full-scale exercise will require emergency responders to work together as a team, providing an opportunity to strengthen working relationships and familiarize themselves with the practices of other agencies before an actual emergency occurs.

"In the event of a major emergency that requires a response from multiple agencies, it is crucial for them to coordinate their efforts effectively to ensure an efficient response," said Rick McBrayer, Emergency Management Coordinator. "The participation of these agencies in the full-scale exercise demonstrates their commitment to promoting public safety and meeting the highest standards of crisis preparation."

Certain parts of the exercise will be conducted on location, so residents should not be alarmed if they observe public safety personnel responding to the simulated emergency.

The exercise will simulate a public safety emergency from start to finish, including a live simulation of an active shooter incident. Participating agencies will simulate various aspects of a real-world emergency, such as responding to and securing the scene, providing medical care to actors portraying injured individuals, and communicating with the public.

A crucial aspect of crisis response is the accountable reunification of students with their parents or guardians. During this training exercise, VISD will practice utilizing the Standard Reunification Method (SRM). Some VISD students and staff will participate in simulating the relocation and reunification efforts.
